July Character Interview
Patricia Parrington ~ July 15, 2025

Hello my lovely readers and fellow book-lovers! For those of you who are new here, I, your archery-loving host Patricia Parrington, have the pleasure of interviewing characters from books all over the world.
Today we have here with us Antony Bronson from the adult epic fantasy book Vispilio by Audrey D. DeBoer. Audrey is a Grand Rapids based fantasy writer, and Vispilio is her debut novel. When she’s not writing, she’s probably singing in the car, hanging out with her husband, Jerry, or annoying the heck out of her cat, Scout.
Meet Antony
[Patricia walks into the studio with a bowl of cereal.]
Good morning! Sorry, I was rushing and didn’t get a chance to eat breakfast.
[She sits across from her guest and takes a quick bite then sets the bowl down.]
Welcome to Fable Features! I’m excited to get to know you.
[She glances at the bowl of cereal.]
Would you say cereal is a soup?
[Antony has already made himself at home with his feet up on the table, dirty boots and all. He looks confused at the bowl.]
I’m not actually sure I know what cereal is.
I suppose you could describe this particular cereal as bits of honey-flavored grains in the form of little rings thrown into a bowl of milk.
[Patricia takes another bite of her breakfast and waves at the staff.]
Could someone bring Antony some to try?
[A bowl of cereal is handed to Antony. Patricia leans forward.]
What do you think?
Strange. Not quite sure about it.
Fair enough.
[Patricia grins and sets down her bowl.]
What would you say is your best physical feature?
[Antony flashes a flirtatious smile]
Isn’t it obvious?
[Patricia laughs.]
What a great way to answer. You certainly are confident! I like that.
Do you have a best friend? What are they like?
Probably my older brother, Carter. He’s a bit of a bore, though. All he does is work, and he’s a cheapskate when it comes to buying drinks at Bourne Tavern. I think I had a best friend when I was younger, but I can’t really remember. He was a boy my age and wore fancy clothes.
Do you have other siblings as well? Or is Carter your only sibling?
I have a younger brother named Benjamin. He’s fourteen and a scamp. I have no idea how he puts up with the two of us. I think he likes me better than Carter. Carter always finds a way to dampen the mood.
Well that would explain why Benjamin seems to like you better.
Without saying the category, what are your top five?
Lute, lyre, hurdy-gurdy, hornpipe, hand drum.
Ahhh, instruments. I like it! You must like music, then. Do you play?
I don’t play myself, but I love dancing. Especially a good reel with a pretty girl.
Dancing is quite fun!
[Patricia nods in agreement.]
When was a time when you surprised yourself?
When I actually remembered something about my childhood. I fell from a tree when I was thirteen and hit my head. It made me forget a lot of things from being a boy. But the other day, I think I actually remembered what my mother looked like.
[Patricia winces.]
That must’ve been some fall if it made you forget a bunch of memories. I’m glad you were able to remember what your mother looked like. Sounds like she meant a lot to you.
Has someone ever done a random act of kindness to you?
My Pa is kind to me every day—kinder than I deserve. It’s not uncommon that I wake up late to work in the shop—I’m late for everything, really. But Pa is the kindest man I know. Everyone in our village of Barnswood loves him.
He sounds like a great man!
Hmm, our next question is an interesting choice: What would be your weapon of choice?
[Antony raises his eyebrows]
Would be? My weapon of choice is my bow, every time. I’m the best shot in Southborn. I can prove it if you’d like.
[He winks.]
Yes, you’ll have to give me a demonstration! I myself am not a great shot, but I do like archery.
If you could choose to be famous for something, what would it be?
For just that—being the best shot in Southborn. I’m at least the best shot in Barnswood, but I bet I am in the entire kingdom, too. The truth is, I don’t think I’ll be remembered for anything. We don’t get to choose our destiny, and my lot in life seems to be a common bowyer’s son.
[He shrugs]
Some men are destined for great things, and some aren’t. That’s just the way of things.
I think that would be awesome if you became known for being the best shot in the entire kingdom! It is tough, though, when you can’t seem to find that break others get.
[Patricia stands.]
It was really great getting to chat with you, Antony! And I hope you do become one of those men who are destined for great things.
[She smiles encouragingly.]
You never know.
End of interview.
